Connecting the People of
Cambridgeshire with their Past
Welcome Message From The President - Mike Petty
Welcome to the website of the Cambridgeshire Association for Local History ("CALH") now in our 62nd year. What a great year with the Diamond Jubilee of our Queen's Coronation , a centenary of the WEA in the eastern Region, the centenary of the Suffragists holding their Annual Gathering in Cambridge making it a memorable year of historical events.
One of our aims is to provide an umbrella service for all the local, family and social history societies, groups and clubs in the old county of Cambridgeshire.
Additionally, we also act as a central information hub taking in all the latest news of events or what is happening or affecting the history community both locally and nationally and disseminating that information out to the 90 plus history based societies, groups and clubs via our various networking facilities.
Caring for the Future of
Cambridgeshire's Past
You will see from the 'About Us' page that we have a wealth of talent and our family of experts are always willing to help with all your local, social or family history enquiries and if we do not know or cannot find the answer you need, we are bound to know just the right person to put you in touch with. If you would like our help and support, please contact our Secretary on info.calh@ gmail.com
In addition to our corporate society membership, we have a thriving individual and family membership. For all these very important members, we arrange monthly lectures and conferences from October to May and organise guided tours within the county and beyond during the summer months.
We also provide them with all the latest news, via this website and our very popular E-News Network, now regularly reaching over 500 like minded enthusiasts right into their homes or via the network of community access points and libraries. However, we never forget our non-internet members who we keep informed by post and by our information boards and flyers at our monthly meetings. If you would like to become a member, we would warmly welcome you, so please do get in touch with our membership secretary, and we still have one of the lowest membership fees around.
In addition to the above, all our members receive a copy of our twice yearly Bulletin, our annual journal the Review and our online gazetteer, the Preview which is a comprehensive guide to what is happening in Cambridgeshire.
In May each year we hold our annual gathering out and about in the Cambridgeshire villages, at this event we celebrate and present the Cambridgeshire Local History Awards and the Cambridgeshire Young Persons Awards (CYPHA)
The purpose of this website is threefold:
- to publicise CALH events and that of our corporate membership and to promote and showcase our the Cambridgeshire Local History Awards;
- to promote our in-house publications and,
- last but not least, to provide a portal for our member societies so that interested parties have a single nexus for information and contact details.
Please browse the site to find out what's on offer. If you are seeking information on a particular locality or subject, why not use the site search facility?

We always welcome new members to the Association - whether Individual, Family, Affiliated & Associate Membership benefits include free or reduced entry fees to our lecture programme, conferences, workshops and excursions depending on the class of membership, plus free entry to other society lectures that we are affiliated to, as well as free subscription to all of our publications (see panel to right).
We hope you find this website useful and we look forward to meeting you.
Mike Petty - President
